Common Presentations in Children and Young People
Sports Injuries
Young people participating in sports β football, cricket, swimming, gymnastics, martial arts, running, cricket, netball and many others β can experience sports-related injuries affecting the spine and musculoskeletal system. Sprains, strains, muscle imbalances and overuse injuries are common. Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) assesses these injuries and, where appropriate, discusses care to support recovery.
Postural Issues from School Bags and Screen Time
Heavy school bags, particularly carried on one shoulder, contribute to postural imbalance and spinal stress. Extended screen time β computers at school, laptops at home, smartphones β promotes forward head posture (text neck). These postural problems can develop into pain and dysfunction if not addressed.
Growing Pains
Children and young adolescents sometimes experience pain in their legs or other areas during periods of rapid growth. It is important to have these assessed to distinguish true "growing pains" (which are benign and self-limiting) from other conditions. Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) can perform an assessment to help understand what is happening and advise on management.
Scoliosis Concerns
Some children develop lateral curvature of the spine (scoliosis). Whilst chiropractic care does not correct structural scoliosis, Dr David Chapman (Chiropractor) can assess your child's spine and discuss management of any symptoms. Children with significant scoliosis should be under medical supervision. To learn more, visit our Scoliosis page.
General Musculoskeletal Complaints
Some children experience aches, pains, or stiffness without obvious cause. An assessment helps identify any underlying spinal or musculoskeletal issues that may be contributing.
